Arcade bars, sometimes called “barcades,” have been a growing phenomenon. While they date back to 1982 with Dave & Buster’s, the current renaissance began with the aptly-named Barcade in Brooklyn, NY, in 2004. Since then, over 100 such establishments have popped up across the United States. But how often to gamers frequent these arcade bars, and how does it compare to general nightlife frequency? In a recent RapidPoll, we asked 400 US gamers How often do you visit barcades? The core PC gaming audience often sees itself as comparable to, or perhaps even larger than, the console gaming market. This audience also disproportionately builds its own PCs to exert greater control over the individual components in their gaming rig. We wondered: as a proxy measurement for the core PC gaming market, how many people actually build their own PCs?

A 2013 survey conducted by the US Census Bureau found that 78.5% of homes have a desktop or laptop computer. In a recent RapidPoll, we asked 500 US people to describe their home computer.

As free-to-play games have grown in popularity, digital trading card games have exploded. These games typically offer free starter packs to play with and may even allow players to earn additional card packs by meeting in-game milestones or progression. Blizzard’s Hearthstone dominates the market, with over 30 million players worldwide and earning more than $20M monthly. But Hearthstone is not the only game in town; there are a number of other digital trading card games available, from those that have their origins as a more traditional tabletop card game (Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon,Yu-Gi-Oh!) to new games developed specifically for digital platforms (Solforge, Hex: Shards of Fate, Might and Magic: Duel of Champions). In 2014, 1980 game projects (both digital and tabletop) were successfully crowd funded on Kickstarter, the leading crowdfunding site, for a total of $89.1M. Since Kickstarter launched in 2009, over 18,000 games projects have been funded with almost $400M. How transformative and impactful has crowdfunding been on video games and the game consumer? We asked 400 US PC gamers (most video games projects on crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo are PC-based) how many video game crowdfunding projects they backed in the previous 12 months.
